The Best Gas Grills Under $1000

With that kind of budget, you can buy a very well-built gas grill equipped with many interesting features.

Of course you don’t have to buy the most expensive model, the 300 to 1,000 dollar range includes many much cheaper yet equally good grills, although they won’t be quite as versatile and solidly built as the premium models.

In this guide, I will break down the best gas grills under $1.000 available in 2021.

If you don’t know what to pay attention to, you should definitely read the second part of the article, where you are going to find a lot of tips for buyers.

The Best Gas Grills under $1000: Top Picks

All the options suggested by me run on propane but if you’re interested in some bigger model then I’d suggest considering a natural gas version (like Weber Genesis II E-435 Natural Gas).

1. The best grill under $1000: Weber Genesis II E-335

A premium gas grill from Weber, the Genesis II E-335 model is without a doubt the best option at a price of up to one thousand dollars.

I also have to admit that when it comes to the price, it is also overall one of the best option in terms of efficiency, quality of workmanship and many other important aspects.

I will list the key aspects of this grill in a few words: It comes with a very large cooking area (513 square inches of the main cooking area), the best features (the most useful ones) and it was solidly made out of high quality materials.

Weber Genesis II E-335

Three main strong burners are a perfect number for this kind of surface, they can achieve a high temperature inside the grill in a very short time. Huge thumbs up for two dedicated burners that are a novelty in this series from Weber – I’m talking about a sear burner and a side burner.

I believe that both dedicated burners in the Genesis II series are something that a lot of Weber fans have been waiting for very long.

Higher quality of workmanship, steel handle, solid lid, good thermometer, folding side shelves complete with hooks, big wheels and a lot of storage space right behind the door.

Another very huge upside is great manufacturer’s warranty (10 years) as well as the community’s overall trust in this brand.

What I Like:

  • Sear Station, Side Burner, GS4 Grilling System & iGrill3 ( sold separately )
  • Very solid grill with Generous 10 years Warranty
  • Big Cooking Space & Front Doors
  • Available in many colors

What I Don’t Like

  • Relatively expensive but totally worth the price

2. Best for beginners: Weber Spirit II E-310

See our full review.

It is a model that usually takes the 1st place in general grills rankings as the best overall gas grill. As you can see, this guide couldn’t go without a model with such ratings.

Just like the previous suggestion (Genesis II-E335), this model also comes with three main burners, but the cooking area is a little smaller (about 20%) – 424 square inches of the main area + 105 square inches of the heated rack.

Weber Spirit II E-310

Weber Spirit II E-310 is compatible with iGrill 3 which is a separately sold thermometer that makes it possible to monitor the temperature even from a phone screen.

The open cart design is a topic of many discussions but the most important thing is quality, and in this regard Weber has lived up to the task and met the clients’ expectations. To those still having their doubts, I’d just like to remind about 10 years of warranty.

What are the key downsides compared to the previous series of Spirit I? First and foremost, shifting from the cabinet style to the open cart design, as well as the thinner lid in the new Spirit II series.

As of today, there is no worthy opponent for this model on the market at this price range, it is confirmed by all independent rankings as well as countless number of positive customer reviews.

A nice gesture from the manufacturer is the ability to choose out of several colors, so you don’t have to worry about having another grill in a boring black color – unless you actually like it of course.

What I Like:

  • The technology
  • Best value for the money
  • 3 Burners and 10 Years Warranty

What I Don’t Like

  • Thin lid

Weber Spirit II E-310 is a great choice for every grilling enthusiast, whether you’re an amateur or a boss. It comes with all the necessary features, the right size, high quality of workmanship and great warranty, and all of that in a great, affordable price.

3. Good alternative for Weber: Broil King Baron S440

Broil King Barson S440 is a good alternative to Weber Genesis II E-335, with similar price, size and features, but from a completely different manufacturer and in a slightly different style.

For those looking for something different than Weber it will be a good option to consider.

Broil King Baron S440

Sadly, it doesn’t come with a sear burner but I think that four burners make up for it. On top of that, one of the big side handles that are usually used as a work space has a burner hidden inside.

Like in every big grill in this case there’s also a lot of space to store things and to hang tools on hooks.

When it comes to the quality of workmanship, it is pretty high. Plenty of elements were made of high quality steel like the lid for example, whereas a part of the cook box was made of cast aluminum which ensures rust resistance.

The grill is also covered with a pretty good warranty with up to 10 years of warranty period for many important elements.

What I Like:

  • Big cooking space
  • Side burner
  • 4 Main Burners
  • 10 Year Warranty ( limited )

What I Don’t Like

  • Lack of sear burner

There are a few things I wish it had at this kind of price, but as an alternative it is still a worthy option to consider in this price range.

4. Best affordable: Char-Broil Performance 300

Another suggestion from a different manufacturer if you’re tired of the Weber brand and wish to discover other valuable grill models.

Char-Broil Performance 300 is a model targeted towards those looking for a smaller grill.

It only offers 300 square inches of the main cooking area and comes with only two burners. Such number still allows to adjust two heat zones.

Char-Broil Performance 300

A perfect option for those who don’t cook much, for example for couples or for places where space is crucial because you have to admit that this model doesn’t take as much space as competitive options.

It simply comes with all the essential things, as in high quality, solidly built structure, two strong burners, wheels in the base for better mobility and a lot of storage space behind the front door.

You won’t find any fancy features here. I know that plenty of people prefer simpler yet more solidly built models, and that’s exactly what Char-Broil Performance 300 is.

What I Like:

  • Very good size for a small family
  • Removable grease tray ( makes it easier to clean )

What I Don’t Like

  • Lack of extra features

Char-Broil is mostly recognized as a brand of medium quality gas grills available at much lower prices, but this particular model is an exception not only due to its slightly higher price but also high quality and durability.

5. Best Portable: Weber Q2200 + Portable Cart

See our full review. This time it’s something completely different, a gas grill designed with convenient cooking away from home in mind. Weber Q2200 was designed to make it as convenient to transport as possible and very effective at the same time. It is an interesting change from typical stationary grills and a great option for those who cook away from home very often. I’ll start with the size, despite being a pretty lightweight and mobile grill it actually offers quite a lot of space – 280 square inches (there’s an even bigger model available, Weber Q3200).

Heating is provided by a single burner but its shape effectively covers the entire surface of the grill, which allows to achieve high temperature in a short time.

Most portable grills don’t actually have much in common with a typical grill, whereas this model offers efficiency similar to a full-sized grill. It mostly owes it to the strong burner and genuine decent grill grates.

When combined with a separately sold stand (Q portable cart) it may also works as a stationary grill at home. It doesn’t take much space and is easy to hide away, so it will also work great in all places where space is crucial.

weber q portable cart

The quality of workmanship is phenomenal which is confirmed by countless positive customer reviews. If you have any doubts, model Q2200 is covered with a very good warranty just like every grill from Weber.

What I Like:

  • Efficient and durable
  • Temperature control
  • Versatility & Easy to clean

What I Don’t Like

  • A little too heavy (most suitable for cars)

What to look for in Gas Grill under $1000

You actually have quite a huge choice at this price which allows you to buy a great grill depending on your needs. Also depending on how expensive a grill is, you need to pay attention to several important elements such as:

Size – You can choose from small to very large ones, so you need to think about how much you cook in order to pick the right model. There is no point overpaying for a very large grill if you won’t even make use of what it has to offer.

Number of burners – My recommended number of main burners in a stationary grill is at least three. It allows to create three different heat zones which allows to prepare different types of food in different conditions at the same time.

Type of fuel – You can choose between propane or natural gas, make a careful decision on what will be best for you.

Features – In more expensive models you can expect a side burner and a sear burner, those two additional burners are truly a valuable addition especially if you value versatility.

Mobility – My list of recommended grills includes several smaller models created more with mobility in mind. If you really want to have a big grill that is also very mobile then check out Weber Q3200 which is a much bigger version of the Q1200 that I recommended.

Warranty – A grill in this price category should definitely have a good warranty. It’s a huge amount of money so look for manufacturers who care not only about their products but most of all about their customer.

Propane or Natural Gas?

Propane wins in terms of mobility, whereas natural gas is characterized by convenience.

If you’re planning to travel a lot or simply often change the grill’s location, go for a propane grill. If, on the other hand, you need a stationary grill, especially a big one with many burners, then consider choosing a natural gas grill.

A huge grill burns much more fuel so a regular gas tank won’t last for long, especially if you cook a lot and often.

I suggest this type of solution if you’re ready to spend nearly a thousand dollars on a new grill, in such case you can be sure that the grill is an investment for years to come and that you won’t have to worry about the gas supply all that time.
