1. Best Overall Char-Broil Performance 475

At first Char-Broil Model Performance 475, definitely rules this price category. Not only because of its efficiency but also because of the big cooking space. It is a great choice for a family of 4 people.

It has marvelously great space for grilling where there are 4 burners. It is almost 475 square inches of cooking where you can find a porcelain-coated cast iron grate.

Additionally there are also 175 square inches of secondary cooking on porcelain-coated swing-away rack.

There is a side burner added, if it is not in use you can cover it closing the cover. This way you will get more place for cooking.

A cover of this grill is made of stainless steel, additionally it has a sensor of temperature on the top of it which will enable you to control the temperature. The elements such as handle or the steering panel complete the product when it comes to style. It is definitely a very nice product concerning the look and price. Take a look at more significant features.

Inside the grill there is a drip tray which can be easily removed to clean up. The grill has two small wheels which enable it to move it to the desired place. On the sides you will find two shelves which will be useful for sure during preparing your meals.

The grill is made of stainless steel thanks to which it will serve us a few good years. If you want to extend the lifespan of it - you have to think about buying the cover which will protect the grill and will elongate its lifespan.

PROS

  • Definitely enormous space for cooking
  • 4 burners
  • Removable tray
  • check-circle
    Price

CONS

  • plenty of time to assemble
  • Only 9,000-BTU per burner.

2. Portable Pick Coleman RoadTrip LXE

A great choice not just for travelers, but also for those with a small patio/backyard.

Coleman Roadtrip LXE also works great as a stationary grill for a small backyard that you can fold down and put in the closet once you’re done cooking.

The integrated stand mechanism was well thought-out which allows it to work out in practice just as it should.

Within just few seconds you can fold down the grill into a suitcase-like structure and store it away in the garage or bring it along on a car trip.

Coleman RoadTrip LXE stands out right from the beginning with its large cooking area ( 285 square inches ) and two burners that are good at heating up.

The main downside I have noticed in this model is the shallow space under the lid, which makes it effectively impossible to grill bigger chunks of meat. Another slightly minor downside in my view was the slightly difficult access to the grease tray.

A huge upside, on the other hand, is the interesting feature of replacing the grill grates with griddles which makes this model even more versatile. Another huge upside is including a stand at this price, plenty of manufacturers sell stands separately.

PROS

  • The Price
  • The grilling area
  • Two burners, warms up fast
  • check-circle
    An integrated stand

CONS

  • The grease tray access is difficult
  • Cheap & low quality wheels

Coleman RoadTrip LXE is a great hybrid of mobility and the advantages of a stationary gas grill. Available at a relatively low price, it really offers a lot, large cooking area, two burners, replaceable grill plates and a foldable stand.

All those advantages made me put it on my list. I know that it is not a typical stationary grill but in practice it manages at every task.

3. Weber Q1200

A great gas grill not just for those who travel but also for those who don’t have much space in their backyard or simply don’t need a full-size grill.

The basic version doesn’t come with a stand, which of course you can buy separately ( I recommend getting Q Portable Cart ).

The entire construction is relatively lightweight, the body was made of cast aluminum which means you don’t need to worry about rust and durability. On top of that, if you have any doubts, the manufacturer has predicted whole 5 years of warranty for this model.

The size may not be impressive but remember that it is a mobile grill complete with a folding stand feature, which increases convenience. Under the lid, you will find 189 square inches of cooking area, it is easily enough for a quick meal for 2-3 people.

Q1200 was equipped with one strong burner which is great at its task ( it warms up very fast ).

I know that it is not a full-size grill but you have to remember that at a price tag below 200 dollars it is very hard to buy something good. Meanwhile, Weber Q1200 is a very high-quality portable grill that will work great in the backyard as a stationary grill as well ( especially with the stand ).

PROS

  • Efficient and durable ( aluminum casting )
  • Temperature control
  • Versatility
  • Easy to clean

CONS

  • A little too heavy ( most suitable for cars )

I recommend this model because of its high quality of workmanship, great burner efficiency, functionality, decent price and obviously the warranty.

4. Char-Broil Classic 280 2-Burner

It's a two burner grill with the option of buying an extra side burner that may come in handy for making sauces. It is much smaller than the models I already described earlier. The cooking space is 280 square inches.

It's the newer model of a popular barbeque grill, see the very popular old Char-Broil Classic 280.

It's definitely a good choice for small groups of people, I think it should be enough for two. You need a barbeque like that, except with a bigger cooking space?

Check out its bigger version, Char-Broil Classic 360.

When it comes to equipment, it has procelain grates that are easy to clean and prevent food from sticking. The cover is made of steel, and coated with porcelain.

Inside it has two burners made of stainless steel. Of course you'll find an igniting system here that fires up the burner with a press of a button.

It is equipped with two extra wheels that make this barbeque mobile.

Simple, small, useful and very cheap - a little over 100$ for this model makes it a very attractive product. It is made of poor quality materials, which is why it's so cheap. Despite that, it will work great for people with low expectations and those who only have a barbeque party once in a blue moon.

Among the downsides the users complain about are difficulties with assembly, the user manual is sadly very poor. You have to find some patience and few hours to spare.

PROS

  • Inexpensive
  • 2 burners
  • Porcelain grates

CONS

  • Hard assembly
  • Poor quality elements

My overall mark is completely positive. It's a model that is fully adequate to its price. It's small, but to some people it might be a good thing if you don't have much space in your backyard. I think that the price-quality-function ratio will make you a satisfied user.

Buyers Guide

Can you buy a great gas grill for less than 200 dollars? That really depends on what you expect, if you’re looking for high quality and efficiency then you’re almost certainly going to be disappointed.

Sadly, at this kind of price it’s hard to have both of those, which is why my list only includes 4 the best inexpensive gas grills.

They all certainly stand out with their efficiency and decent quality. Let me point out once again that at this price range you can’t expect high quality of workmanship ( the exception being Weber Q1200 ). Most stationary models are a result of compromises that the manufacturers have to make at such price.

That doesn’t mean that a gas grill under 200 dollars is junk. Quite the opposite, there are efficient models but you have to get prepared for their durability usually lasting only a couple of years. These are not an investment for years to come with many years of manufacturer’s warranty. Such grill is mostly an option for few years for beginners or those with a very limited budget.

I have analyzed the entire market, devoted a whole lot of time to that and you would be shocked upon seeing how many grills I have rejected because most of them were garbage. Below I will also present few simple tips that will be useful for beginners.

What to pay attention to in a Gas Grill Below $200 ?

Size – Although there may not be a lot to choose from at this price range, you should still think about how much space you need. If you have a bigger family and throw a lot of parties, go for something bigger like Char-Broil Performance 475 for example. Also pay attention to whether the area under the lid is big enough to grill something like a chicken.

Mobility – You have a small patio or don’t cook often? In that case, check out the models that were designed with mobility in mind. Such grill is convenient if you don’t have much space or if you want to be able to hide it away in the closet fast and easily once you’re done cooking. On top of that, mobility can be utilized away from home, like when taking the grill camping.

Warranty – Sadly, most of models at this price range come with a very poor warranty. It is still possible to find models that should keep you relaxed in this matter. I put a lot of effort to try at least few models that were covered with decent warranty, but don’t expect miracles for this kind of money.

Don’t look for gadgets/features because in this price range it is simply impossible. A gas grill for less than 200 dollars is built with nothing but simplicity and efficiency in mind. Any additional features are out of question here, if you expect something like this then you have to increase your budget significantly.
