There’s a huge selection of pellet grills on the market, which is why I have created a guide aimed mainly at those with a budget of up to $500.
Sadly, it is one of the most expensive types of grills, which makes it difficult to find something solid in this price range. Still, I was able to find several interesting options that are really worth checking out.
Based on my experience and searches, I have created a list of the best pellet grills under $500 for you. I took into account the size, ease of use, price, features and obviously the quality of workmanship.

The 3 Best Pellet Grills Under $500
Out of the entire offer on the market, I was able to pick just three pellet grills at this kind of price that meet my criteria. I focused on size, quality of workmanship, functionality, controller type and the ratio of price to all of that.
1. Best Overall Camp Chef SmokePro DLX
There are plenty of reasons to consider Camp Chef SmokePro DLX a phenomenal pellet grill.
Among the key ones are the high quality of workmanship, great efficiency and a price adequate to it all.
It is the option both for beginners and experienced people alike who are looking for a solid grill at a reasonable price.
It’s a combination of the most important features, very good quality of workmanship, a good controller and adequate capacity.
It has 429 square inches of the main cooking area.
It can reach temperatures of up to 500 degrees F and comes with a pellet hopper with capacity of 18 lbs.
The controller offers a lot of settings within a range of 175 to 500 degrees F. In practice, temperature control is stable thanks to a good controller and a solidly made construction.
Another advantage is very easy cleaning thanks to the ash clean out system. Of course you still need to dust the interior every few cooks, but with this system, you need to do it much less often than usual.
At this kind of size and construction, the pellet consumption is relatively low, which means that a full tank can last for a long time (of course a lot depends on weather and temperature).
One has to admit that Camp Chef has created a perfect grill in the medium price range that comes with all the essentials. I’m happy with the fact that in this price range they were able to build a relatively simple yet effective grill that at the same time is also solidly built and durable.
If you’re looking for an alternative to a time consuming charcoal smoker then this grill will allow you to comfortably cook in just 10 minutes from starting.
2. Runner Up Z GRILLS-7002B
Not many people know it, but Z-Grills used to manufacture Chinese grills for many American companies, including Traeger themselves. At some point the company decided to manufacture grills of the same quality available at lower prices under their own brand – that’s how the Z-Grills brand was born.
Z GRILLS-7002B offers a lot of cooking area (504 square inches of the main area) and an adequate size of the pellet hopper (20 lbs).
It comes with all the essential features and solutions that guarantee comfortable and effective cooking.
The 7002B version is a pretty basic configuration without any extra gadgets or advanced features, which allowed the end price for the grill this big to be fairly low.
The controller is simple and only offers several basic settings, but the efficiency and stability of temperature is still satisfying.
The quality of workmanship and durability are good – in the event of any doubts, this model is covered with 3 years of warranty.
It might be a downside to many that the Z-Grills is based on components manufactured entirely in China. You need to know that majority of American companies are actually based on Chinese manufacturing to some degree as well – remember that what matters the most is quality.
Taking all pros and cons into account, I have to admit that it is an interesting option if you’re looking for a big and simple pellet grill at the lowest possible price.
3. Best Portable GMG Davy Crockett
It’s hard to expect mobility from a pellet grill, especially considering that it needs electricity to run. Sadly, in this regard we don’t have as much freedom as with a charcoal.
The GMG Davy Crockett pellet grill was designed to be easy to transport.
You can easily bring it along when going outside, like when camping out. There is only one condition, the place needs to have a constant source of power or else you won’t use this grill.
Its mobile qualities can also be used at home when you don’t have much room for a new grill.
The legs can be folded any time, which allows the actual construction to take much less space and makes it easier to transport.
Big thumbs up for including adapters that allow you to use different sources of power. Obviously there’s the standard home socket option, but also a car lighter port or a car battery, which are the things you have an easy access to when away from home.
When it comes to pellet grills, it is one of the few models that were designed with mobility in mind.
Another strong advantage of this model is great functionality, especially for this kind of money. It comes with features you won’t find in much more expensive and bigger grills.
The digital controller makes it possible to set temperature at 5 degree intervals, instead of just a few basic settings.
It is possible to connect a phone/tablet with the controller using the Wi-Fi technology.
It makes it possible to remotely monitor the cooking process (temperature), including the temperature inside meat using a special app. The advantage of the app is a lot of interesting features and the ability to set alarms.
Another great argument in favor of it is its great 3 year long warranty period.
Despite its small capacity, I have to say that it’s a great grill, especially for this kind of money. I really appreciate the functionality, mobility, versatility and great quality of workmanship.
