Without a doubt, a stainless steel grill is a very good looking grill but looks don’t always come with quality.
Stainless steel is a pretty confusing term, as in reality it might actually rust over time, lose its shine and fade. It is worth knowing that there are many types of steel, which is why not every stainless steel grill is made equal and it’s necessary to take a careful look at what the manufacturer has to offer.
The type of stainless steel will mostly affect its durability and the risk of rust.
When going for a stainless steel grill, you need to know what to pay attention to. What is very important is the type of steel because it can be used to evaluate the properties of steel and its durability.
Every manufacturer will proudly advertise their product as high-quality, but not everyone will openly talk about the quality and type of steel used to make it. For that reason, I have prepared a list of the best stainless steel grills that were mostly made of good quality materials.

The Best Stainless Steel Grills: Top picks
The offer of stainless steel grills on the market is pretty big, there aren’t many solid options. If you want to have materials of best quality used to make the grill then one of the below options will be perfect.
1. Best Overall Weber Genesis II S-335
It is nice to know that the Genesis II series from Weber is available in the stainless steel version. An option for much more experienced and demanding people who are willing to spend much more money on a new grill.
The three-burner Weber Genesis II S-335 offers a whole lot of cooking area (513 square inches of the main cooking area). Such size makes it possible to adapt to different kinds of situations: cooking for a family of few or even at a bigger family reunion.
The Genesis II series is characterized by very high quality of workmanship, attention to details, well thought-out structure, great warranty and useful gadgets as well as dedicated burners.
A stainless steel grill of this type is impressive, but it’s not the design that matters the most, despite truly great stylistics of this model.
I like how the entire construction was designed, which made it functional and very convenient. Large side shelves provide a lot of working space, whereas the hooks and huge space underneath the grill provide a lot of space to store your accessories.
Besides the high quality of workmanship and efficiency of the main burners, the greatest advantage of the Genesis II series are additional dedicated burners.
It is impossible to ignore the sear burner and the side burner, the purpose of which is to increase the versatility and improve the results of cooking (I love the sear burner).
I’d like to remind those seeking even greater functionality that the manufacturer has a lot of additional accessories for sale. For example, the iGrill3 which is a thermometer that makes it possible to remotely monitor the cooking process right on your phone’s screen.
Genesis II S-335 is without a doubt a great stainless steel grill that I recommend to everyone without any hesitation. The style, the quality, the functionality, large cooking area and the great 10 year warranty – these are the greatest advantages.
The only downside to most people (especially beginners) is the high price which is why I believe that this is an option for people who are experienced and know what they really need.
2. Runner Up Char-Broil Performance 300
The next option is aimed at those with a limited budget who value simplicity. The manufacturer mostly focused on functionality of the construction itself, efficiency and quality of workmanship.
Char-Broil Performance 300 is a small-sized and simple grill for those who don’t cook that much and don’t need any gadgets.
It is not a grill made entirely of stainless steel, but due to the price and quality I decided to place it on my list as a cheaper option.
The only thing made entirely of stainless steel is the eye-catching lid and front panel. I have to admit that, when combined with the rest of the construction, it looks really great.
It only comes with two burners but for such small grill it is enough. Don’t get me wrong, 300 square inches of cooking area is still a lot for a few people or a small family.
Its small size makes it a good option to consider for those who don’t have much space for a new grill.
The construction was designed so that all aspects of this grill are used to the full extent. Large side shelves provide a lot of work space, and once you’re done cooking you can fold them to get some room.
Of course, as a cabinet style grill, the construction also comes with a designated place to store things right behind the door.
Char-Broil Performance 300 is a solid and small-sized stainless steel grill available at the lowest possible price. I have to admit that you will have a hard time finding something better in this price range, at least I know I couldn’t.
What matters to me is quality of workmanship, efficiency, functionality and adequate price – all of that applies to this model.
3. Best High-End Weber Summit S-470
A high quality, multi-functional and very expensive stainless steel grill from Weber. It is one of the most expensive stationary gas grills on the market and at the same time one of the best in many regards.
Weber Summit S-470 stands out with its functionality, style and efficiency.
It was mostly made of steel which makes it mega impressive to everyone who looks at it.
Under the lid of this four-burner stainless steel grill you will find whole 580 square inches of the main cooking area. Which means you shouldn’t run out of space even at a huge party.
The advantage of the Summit series are as many as four different burners intended for different purposes. Each of them has its designated space and for example the sear burner allows to get perfect sear marks on your food’s surface.
Hidden under the lid are also two additional burners:
The smoker burner makes it possible to get smoke out of wood chips and then there’s the rear-mounted infrared rotisserie burner.
The last burner is located in the side shelf, it is hidden under a lid and most of you know it perfectly well as a “side burner”.
Having so many burners provides a lot of fun for a professional cook who loves to experiment. Of course this model is great for regular grilling but it’s a good idea to make use of all those features it comes with and get more fun out of cooking.
Besides the main part of the grill, the construction as a whole was also made to be useful. Large, spacious side shelves were introduced that can be folded any time. There are hooks for BBQ tools on either side of the shelves, more room to store things can be found behind the door.
Solid steel handles on the side shelves, the door and the lid improve convenience and looks.
Without a doubt it is a phenomenal grill, but is it for everyone? You need to answer yourself the question of whether this model is for you. I’ll just add that it is worth buying if grilling is your passion and not just cooking a simple meal once in a while.
Choosing the best stainless steel grill is not the easiest task, and it certainly takes some time. You need to verify whether the grill model you’re interested in really was made of the best quality steel. To make the choice easier for you, I prepared several proven options but I have to warn you that most of them cost a lot.
You can also make use of the below tips if you are not certain what to pay attention to when picking a new stainless steel grill.
What to look for in a stainless steel grill
Budget – Be aware that high quality grills cost much more. Of course there are options for those with a smaller budget, but there aren’t many of them.
Size – Once you know your budget, you can move on to the initial search of a perfect grill. At this stage you should focus on how much you are going to cook. Pick the perfect size for your needs so that you don’t overpay for a too big grill that you won’t make full use of anyway.
Steel Grade – Pay attention to the steel grade used to make the grill. Not every stainless steel is made equal, more on that below.
Number of burners – I recommend three burners if you want to make effective use of creating different heat zones. The minimum number is two, it is more like an option for those who don’t cook a lot that also allows for indirect cooking.
Features – You want to have functional gadgets that increase convenience and experience when cooking? Features of this type are something very neat but they have a huge impact on the price of a grill. Personally I recommend additional dedicated burners like a sear burner or a side burner.
Grades 304 and 430 Stainless Steel
As I have already mentioned several times, the grade of steel has a very huge impact. What also matters is whether all the elements were made of the same steel grade or just some of them.
The difference between the two grades is very huge. Grade 304 stainless steel is non-magnetic and valued for its much better resistance to corrosion.
Grade 430 stainless steel, on the other hand, as you probably guess already, is steel that offers inferior properties. It is steel that is definitely less resistant to corrosion than the magnetic type.
In practice it means that they also differ in price, which makes it necessary to carefully check out what a manufacturer has to offer. It is a very common practice to use poorer quality steel to build the entire construction of the grill or majority of it. It also happens sometimes that the manufacturer uses better quality steel for minor yet crucial elements such as screws etc.
If you want your grill to be durable and made of steel that really ensures years of resistance to rust then check out carefully what materials the manufacturer used to build the grill you’re interested in.
It sometimes happens that an expensive stainless steel grill is actually mostly made of poorer quality steel.
The easiest way to check the grade of stainless steel (304 or 430) is using a magnet. Stainless steel 304 is non-magnetic which means it won’t respond to a magnet whereas with the 430 steel it’s quite the opposite.
